Orange or Yellow?

Which one do I choose? What are the pros/cons?

Yellow Hi-Vis

Pros:

  1. Brightness: Yellow is typically the brightest color and is highly visible in daylight and in low-light conditions.
  2. Universal Recognition: Yellow is commonly associated with caution and is widely recognised in safety gear.
  3. Contrast: Yellow hi-vis clothing stands out well against natural backgrounds like green forests and urban environments.

Cons:

  1. Dirty Appearance: Yellow can show dirt and grime more easily, requiring frequent cleaning to maintain visibility.
  2. Less Effective in Certain Lighting: Yellow might not be as effective in foggy or overcast conditions as orange.

Orange Hi-Vis

Pros:

  1. Contrast: Orange stands out more against blue skies, green landscapes, and brown backgrounds, making it ideal for construction sites and rural areas.
  2. Regulations: In some regions and industries, orange is mandatory such as Rail and Highways.
  3. Symbolism: Orange is often associated with alertness and high-risk areas, enhancing awareness.

Cons:

  1. Visibility at Night: While orange is highly visible during the day, it might not be as bright as yellow in low-light conditions, although this can be mitigated with reflective strips.
  2. Not as Bright: Orange might not be as immediately attention-grabbing as yellow in certain situations.
